Nov. 3, 2011: Digital Entrepreneurs Panel Today, human interaction has a mediator -- the computer. Communication is regularly and expectantly happening over long distances and our daily exposure to individuals, brands and businesses is measured through an intricate system of cables and servers. Entire social existences are being lived online and the latest generation of innovators understands this phenomenon and how to make an impact in a seemingly infinite space. The Digital Entrepreneurs Panel invites such innovators to discuss the online market, how they have achieved success by creating engaging and interactive digital assets for both brands and consumers and why this is important. It will explore the topics of new media, social media, interactive marketing and the role of digital in business and outreach. The discussion is intended to be lively, engaging and of course, digitized. Panelists come from several industries including, retail, tech, agency, and social, but all share that they are young (30 and under), savvy individuals who have founded and grown their businesses and achieved success largely through their use of social media and the web. They represent the future -- where current USC students could be in the next few years. For more on the panel: http://www.annenberglab.com/eventdetail/64

Watch a recording of the Space Entrepreneurship Panel that took place at the Keck Institute for Space Studies on October 27, 2015. Abstract: The past few years we have seen the emergence of several space startups - private companies with the ability to make a profit while operating extraterrestrially. These companies can be divided into three categories: Earth-based companies developing products for space, space-based companies providing services back on earth, and companies that operate entirely off-world. All face challenges associated with operating in space, but each has unique difficulties when it comes to securing funding and developing a business plan. Tethers Unlimited, Planet Labs, and Planetary Resources, who represent the entire spectrum of space startups, will join Professor Sergio Pellegrino to discuss what is needed to succeed as a space company. Topics to explore include risks and rewards within each category, how to work with minimal existing infrastructure, and how to secure funding when the average return on investment timeline is much longer than for a typical startup.

What if the next great breakthrough in medicine isn't on planet Earth? Unprecedented access to orbit coupled with the rapid development of advanced micro-technologies, robots and entrepreneurial ideas are driving a new era in space. Dr. Julia Aebersold, manager of the Nano Technology Center (MNTC) cleanroom at the University of Louisville; Twyman Clements, President and CEO of Lexington-based Space Tango; Jay Gallentine, a space historian focusing primarily on unmanned planetary exploration; and Michelle Lucas, who spent more than 10 years at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as an International Space Station Flight Controller and Astronaut Instructor, came together to discuss a new era of space exploration. IdeaFestival Uncut brings you IdeaFestival presentations in their entirety.
